A person who deeply loves, admires, or is a “cat fancier.”
Derived from the Greek words ailouros (cat) and phile (lover), this term describes someone who finds immense joy, comfort, and companionship in feline friends.
Historically, ancient Egyptians were some of the biggest cat lovers, and some famous ailurophiles include Ernest Hemingway, Freddie Mercury, Mark Twain, and Florence Nightingale.
About Us
Kitty Cat Lounge is a midcentury themed CAT CAFE right in the heart of Central Florida! Nestled neatly between Orlando and Tampa. We proudly have become a draw for locals and tourists alike! We boast LOCAL! All things LOCAL! Our kitties are adoptable rescues from with in Polk County where we sadly claim the highest euthanasia rate in the Southeast. We are a kitty foster for the Saving Paws Rescue of Florida. All the art hanging on our art wall is from artists within Polk County! Come and spend the day with us socializing our kitties, playing games, eating breakfast or lunch or stealing our WIFI to study or work! We are not only dedicated to saving cats, but we want to provide a unique experience for humans as well!
Cindy Skop
I grew up as a photojournalist. I had nearly 30 years working in newsprint. In each market I worked, I covered the communities I lived in in depth. The thing that struck me, no matter where I lived, were the lives neglected and souls uncared for. When I moved to Lakeland, photojournalism eventually left me as it now has with most of my colleagues. Being able to educate my community, that they may not have otherwise known about, always made me feel somewhat like a philanthropist. After I was laid off, I knew I still had work to do. I ethically struggled to stand by and watch as Polk County put more cats to death than any other county in the Southeast United States. So, my family and I sank everything we have, and a lot more that we didn’t have, to create this place for the community to come together. With us, you can enjoy a locally crafted foods, local art, and locally rescued kitties. Our hope is that maybe you will find a place in your heart and home for another family member. After all, each adoption means one less euthanized! And hey, if you think the Kitty Cat Lounge sounds like a strip joint, cool. Come, be surprised.
Arysa
Barista, cursive connoisseur, trivia troubadour, and creator of cute cat art—Arysa is a "woman of the clean" who always has an ear to listen and motherly advice to give. She does her best to make her environment feel warm and cozy, like the home you haven’t found yet. In doing so, you might find her—much like a grandma—humming or singing up a storm while she works if the song is just right. She’s happy to talk your ear off about the latest book in her bag or the many movies and TV shows she’s binged recently, like the big old geek she is. She’ll ask about your projects and act as your biggest supporter, even if she doesn’t fully understand the technicalities. While she thinks she’s hilarious and loves a good pun (even if it takes her a second to catch on), she prays for your company—yet scorns this task as a mummer’s farce, a script written for a theater of ghosts.
Canaan
Hello! My name is Canaan, my friends call me Can, because of my “can” do attitude. If you stop by Kitty Cat Lounge you’ll see all I “CAN” do! Running around at the speed of sound you can watch as I effortlessly make your coffee, clean tables, and prepare your pastry. When I’m off duty you’ll find me at home painting, knitting, or cooking with my amazing partner Bee. I’m always looking to meet someone new, so come to Kitty Cat Lounge and say “Hello!”
