Derived from the Greek words ailouros (cat) and phile (lover), this term describes someone who finds immense joy, comfort, and companionship in feline friends.

Historically, ancient Egyptians were some of the biggest cat lovers, and some famous ailurophiles include Ernest Hemingway, Freddie Mercury, Mark Twain, and Florence Nightingale.

About Us

Cindy Skop

I grew up as a photojournalist. I covered the communities I lived in. The thing that struck me were the lives neglected and souls uncared for. When I moved to Lakeland, journalism eventually left me. I knew I had to do something. I couldn't stand by and watch more then 60,000 kitties be put to death for no other reason then no one wanted them. So, my family and I have sunk everything we have and a lot more that we don't have to create this place for you to come enjoy a kitty and maybe find a place in your heart and home for another family member. And hey, if you think the Kitty Cat Lounge sounds like a strip joint, cool. Come, be surprised.
